In such a beautiful park, striking a balance between blending in and standing apart was the challenge in the Serengeti-like environment. Martins used a combination of raw, Zincalume and an ochre-orange enamelled paint combined perfectly to achieve the right tone.
More than informative, the signage makes a huge contribution to place making, enlivening the visitation experience. The animals are life-size and enable people to appreciate the scale of animals that they are unable to stand alongside in the open range environment. More sculptures than just signage, visitors love them and share with selfies against the signs on social media, spreading the word about what an amazing place Monarto Zoo is.
A broad range of in-house skills was deployed on this project, including environmental design, graphic design, wayfinding and signage. The signage is a focal point of the park and guides thousands of visitors every week.
