Along a 2-kilometre stretch of pristine coastline lies a striking oasis of lush greens, accented with bunkers, lakes and natural dunes. At 7,342 yards long, the Greg Norman designed 18 hole Championship Course at Al Mouj Golf is Oman’s first links style course.
Here 173 bird species use the course for resting, nesting and migrating. The course has been awarded international certification for conservation, being one of only 20 out of 12,000 golf courses worldwide with dual environmental and sustainability accreditation from Audubon International.
Martins Brand House designed a full suite of signage to tell the story of the course’s extraordinary wildlife. This achieved three things: (1) informed players and visitors of Al Mouj Golf’s sustainability commitment, (2) enhanced the enjoyment for golfers playing on a unique course, their appreciation of the environment and encouraged them to look out for and identify species, and (3) contributed a significant place-making element as functional sculptural pieces that knit the course together, even creating wonderful Instagram backdrops.
Designed as informative and sculptural, the signs were waterjet cut from 16mm thick marine grade aluminum with 2pac marine grade coating, to stand up to the extremes of heat and harshness of the coastal environment. Both English and Arabic languages are incorporated into the designs to tell the story.
